Many tests have been designed specifically to assess the sensorimotor function and coordination of the upper extremity, especially for patients with hemiparetic stroke. The Action Research Arm Test includes 19 items scored on a 4-point ordinal scale, but the sum score from 0 to 57 is usually treated as an interval scale.65 Subjects are graded by the quality of grasp, grip, and pincer movements using small items and for larger hand movements.
